This Classic Revival style building was erected in 1864 by John Haley for $26,140.40. It was renovated in 1991. It has a dungeon associated with the Underground Railroad. The juror’s room walls contain graffiti from the 1800’s. The expansive main courtroom, refurbished to its original colors and effects, rests under a 25 foot ceiling of sanded plaster and hand cut cornice treatments. Spend a few minutes on the lawn or take in this masterpiece of a building, still in operation today as it has been for generations.
The Switzerland County Courthouse has a genealogy records room located in the basement that researchers can search at their leisure.
